Local MP Sheryll Murray was honoured to welcome the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to the newly refurbished Duchy Palace in Lostwithiel. The 700 year old palace is one of the most important historical buildings in the UK and has undergone a £1million restoration led by the Prince’s Regeneration Trust. The building, which was in danger of dereliction, has 3 floors and has been transformed into vital business and retail space that will benefit the community and bolster the local economy.
Following the opening Sheryll said, “It was a great honour to be able to welcome the Prince and Duchess to my constituency. The Old Duchy Palace is a fantastic building and I am so pleased that the building has been given a new lease of life so it can continue to serve the community as it has done for hundreds of years. I would like to thank all those involved for their hard work and commend them on the quality of their efforts. The building now stands proud once again in Lostwithiel and it is my hope that it continues to be part of the town for many hundreds of years to come.
“It was particularly good to wish the Duchess of Cornwall a happy birthday.”
