Andrew Percy MP, the Minister for Local Growth explained in a letter that there was a “£1.1 million grant to wards a £1.5 million project to take down and rebuild a disused Grade 2 listed building (the Sardine factory) to include a training restaurant, café, outward bound centre, museum and fishermen’s store, supporting the local fishing industry.”
In a statement Bob Davidson said, “This is good news for Looe. I hope the businesses and facilities will give new and diversified attractions for tourists in the town. I hope this will increase visitor numbers and extend the tourist season meaning jobs for local people. As the local Councillor I would look to promote projects like this in the local area.”
Sheryll Murray added, “I am so pleased to have received the news that the Conservative Government have awarded this grant towards a project to utilise the Old Sardine Factory in West Looe from the Coastal Communities Fund. I was pleased to provide a letter of support for the application. It was good to be on the quay this morning to celebrate the news with Bob.”
