South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray visited the new Foodbank in Liskeard in Barras Place in Liskeard and welcomed the new facility.
In a statement she said, “I was delighted to visit the new Liskeard & Looe Food bank in their new premises and would like to give a personal thanks to all the volunteers who give their time and effort freely to ensure people of South East Cornwall are helped in these tough economic times.
“I would like to thank the owner of the premises for their generosity in setting the rent and to all those who donate to this fantastic cause.”
The Foodbank is open at other times but always on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Donations can also be made in a number of locations including HSBC and Barclays in the town.
In a statement the Foodbank commented, “We wanted to move, we had to move, and now we have, to a fabulous town centre location in Liskeard. We knew demand for our services would increase in 2013 and it already has – up 40% on last year. This means more food in and more food out, and more volunteers to collect, sort and distribute, and space in which to operate. Our new premises gives us the space we need, but more than that it gives us a presence, a place in town, somewhere to call foodbank centre, somewhere to meet each other, and importantly somewhere to meet the public and particularly those in crisis.”
