It was heavy rain and wind on the banks of Siblyback Lake but that did not dampen the spirits of the Liskeard 2nd Girl Guides as they were presented a new flag by local MP Sheryll Murray. It was the occasion of the Liskeard Old Cornwall Societies Mid Summers Eve Celtic Bonfire and it was this Society which had raised the money for the new flag.
Hilary Whitty, the local District Commissioner for Guiding, accepted the flag with a number of the Guides. Hilary thanked the Old Cornwall Society for their kind donation “which we are very grateful for.” She also spoke of how they needed to do a recruitment drive as “we are in desperate need of new Leaders.”
Following the event Sheryll said, “I was then really pleased to travel to Siblyback Lake to present the Liskeard Guides with their new colours. The presentation took place before the Mid Summer's Eve Bonfire at Siblyback. The bonfire was well alight despite the heavy rain when the traditional wreaths were thrown and I can honestly say the rain did not dampen our spirits. The Guides are such a fantastic and worthwhile organisation and I would encourage anyone to get involved if they can.”
