Local MP Sheryll Murray was very pleased to attend the Commissioning of Ian Murray as Superintendent for the Fishermen’s Mission. Ian’s brother was Neil Murray, Sheryll’s husband, who she lost when he died whilst working on his fishing boat ‘Our Boy Andrew’.
The Fishermen’s Mission is the only fishermen’s charity that provides emergency support alongside practical, financial, spiritual and emotional care. They help all fishermen, active or retired, and their families.
Sheryll took the opportunity to present Ian with a cheque for £457 which was the money she raised after doing the New Year’s Dip with the Torpoint and Rame Lions for the Fishermen’s Mission.
Following the ceremony Sheryll said, “Ian has done a fantastic amount for the Fishermen’s Mission and I am so pleased that they have recognised this by making him the Superintendent for South East Cornwall.
“Ian has worked as a commercial fisherman and knows the community well. He is a very caring person and I can think of no-one better to work to help those in need.”
