Local MP Sheryll Murray met with Barclays Bank on a walk through Looe visiting small business owners highlighting how important contactless payment is as more and more people are using it.
Contactless is a fast, easy and secure way to pay, for purchases costing £30 and under. Contactless payments are becoming increasingly common on a range of devices including on cards, key fobs, wristbands and you can even get stickers which you can attach to other devices.
Sheryll met with many small business owners whose business relies on debit and credit cards, with some reporting as little as 10% being paid for with cash. She said, “It is good to see such a big company take an interest in the many small independent traders in Looe. Contactless is becoming an increasingly important way of paying for goods and services. It is important that smaller traders are able to take advantage of this technology in the same way that large multinational chains do.”
Barclay’s Community Director for Cornwall, Michael Watts, said “Looe’s bustling and vibrant economy is dependent on the thousands of tourists who visit the town. Yet with visitors now carrying less cash in favour of choosing to pay by card and contactless, it’s never been more important that local businesses are able to serve customers in the way that works best for them.”
Sharon Maynard from Lovely Lanes interior design shop said, “it is so efficient and has really made my turnover increase.”
