Local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to tour Saltash and Torpoint Royal Mail delivery offices on Friday and Callington and Looe Royal Mail delivery offices on Saturday. She plans to visit Liskeard this Friday.
Firstly in Saltash Sheryll was able to catch up with Liam who she joined on his round in 2012. Sheryll said, “Many of us forget that Posties rise at an early hour in the morning when we are still tucked up in bed and have already done many hours of work, sorting our mail before they go out on the streets to deliver this to our homes. It was good to go on Liam’s round to see first hand the issues our Post men and woman face.”
Secondly in Torpoint Sheryll bumped into her own postman and for once collected her own mail. Sheryll said, “It was really nice to be able to thank my postman and I would like to say a very big thank you to all of the postmen and women who cheerfully make sure we get our post in South East Cornwall.”
Thirdly in Callington met the team sorting our parcels. Sheryll explained, “I learned that the amount of packages going through the delivery offices this year has on occasions tripled. It was reassuring to see the mail being sorted and cleared in a very professional way.”
Lastly in Looe Sheryll met Mark who had helped an elderly person on his round. The lady’s relation had written explaining, “I am writing to send praise! My 88 yr old nan who lives up a steep hill and in a 3rd floor flat (and whom has undergone heart bypass surgery in the past) was struggling to carry her shopping up the hill to her home on Saturday. She perched herself on a wall at the bottom of the hill before she attempted to start the climb… walking down the hill came her postman… Not only did he ask if she was ok, he also made sure she got up the hill and into her flat whilst carrying her shopping! Ensuring she got home safely.” She further went on to explain that, “this postman takes her post each day right up to the front door. For years her post was left at the main entrance to the flats and my nan would have to climb 3 flights of steps each day to collect her post. This has made such a huge difference to her day to day health as she is no longer puffed out.”
Following her visit to Looe Sheryll said, “I would like to thank postie Mark and the many others who go out of their way to keep an eye on our more elderly residents.”
