Local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to meet with a group of local farmers at the NFU headquarters in Liskeard on Friday to discuss the political aspects of their job. Sheryll was also pleased to join them in promoting their ‘Back British Farming – Buy British’ campaign.
The campaign explains, “British farmers are proud to produce great food. There are many reasons why it’s a good idea to back British farming. All that quality British produce at your supermarket or local shop is only part of the story. Farming delivers for Britain in many other ways too. As consumers, we all have an important role to play in securing a positive future for UK farming. This is choosing British-farmed produce when shopping. Our campaign message is simple – make it British, make it local and most importantly, make it happen.”
At the meeting Sheryll was able to discuss many issues concerning the farmers such as BovineTB and the Common Agricultural Policy.
Following her meeting Sheryll said, “It is always good to meet with local farmers in the constituency. It is such an important part of the local economy with so many of my constituents employed in the agri-food sector. I have been very pleased with the success of the red tractor quality mark on so many products showing food safety, hygiene, animal welfare and protection of our environment. This logo says this food is of high quality and is proud to be British.
“I would like to thank my farmers for the excellent work they do and I am pleased to work with them to see that the Government is doing all it can to ensure these businesses are successful.”
