Local MP Sheryll Murray was amazed at the variety of model boats from right across Devon and Cornwall on display in Looe on Sunday at their Looe Model Boat Club Open Day.
Boats were on display from Truro and Camborne to Teignbridge. There were many boats from across South East Cornwall including the event home of Looe and even some from Sheryll’s own village of Millbrook. There was a wide range of remote controlled devices from traditional boats to a jet ski and even a family of ducks.
Following her visit Sheryll said, “I was also pleased to visit the Looe Model Boat Club and many others including the Model Boat Club from my own village of Millbrook this weekend. I am amazed at the fantastic variety of model boats on display. All of these models depict the maritime history which South East Cornwall is so famous for. From Sailing Barges and Tug boats which dominate the River Tamar, to our fantastic commercial fishing vessels, sailing and motorised leisure craft to Pilot gigs and the Liners and Cargo Vessels which visit the River Fowey. Model boat enthusiasts show great skill in building their detailed models and I would like to thank them for allowing both locals and visitors alike to share in their work.
“It was also good to meet up with some old friends and to discuss with them the issues facing the area. It is through visiting events like this that I get a lot of feedback which I can then take to government.”
