South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray met with the National Marine Aquarium’s Director of Conservation and Communication Paul Cox and the Aquarium’s Managing Director David Gibson to hear about Plymouth’s bid to become a ‘Fish 2 Fork Blue City’. The Fish2fork Blue City scheme has been created to recognise communities where at least half the restaurants serving four or more species of fish and shellfish have earned a blue fish rating.
Following the meeting Sheryll explained, “Fish is a massively important source of high quality protein and vital nutrients meaning it is a very important food source. I have enjoyed eating fish but we must be careful that we are not destroying species for future generations.
“I am keen that everyone in the fishing industry works together from the fishermen to the restaurant and fishmongers. I am pleased that the National Marine Aquarium has been able to lend its expertise to this project.
“I am also pleased that many restaurants in Plymouth are looking at the variety of fish we have on our plate. There are many delicious species and I would encourage both restaurants and customers to try new ones.
“As I visit local businesses in South East Cornwall I will certainly be telling of the variety of fish available and the excellent nutritional value it has.”
