Local MP Sheryll Murray’s first engagement was to attend an event put on to celebrate Food Revolution Day at Torpoint Town Hall on the Saturday morning following the election. Sheryll joined Torpoint Mayor & Mayoress Mike and Val Pearn and their grandson Harry at the event which included Theatre about food and a pop up kitchen.
On their website celebrity chef Jamie Oliver described their Food Revolution as, “By educating children about food in a practical, fun and engaging way, we can provide them with the knowledge and skills they so urgently need to lead healthier, happier lives. We need to make practical food education a compulsory part of every school curriculum across the world, and that’s why I’ve launched a petition calling on all G20 countries to action this. With enough support from millions of people around the world, I truly believe that we can create a movement that’s powerful enough to make governments take action.”
Local children took part in two plays highlighting the role of food and highlighting health aspects and the importance of diet. Sheryll had met with the Torpoint Food Revolution Ambassador Debbie Thorpe and the Green Man festival at Mount Edgcumbe at their ‘family foraging kitchen’.
Following the event Sheryll said, “I would like to thank Debbie Thorpe for her kind invitation to the Food Revolution event at Torpoint Town Hall. The two plays that I saw were fantastic and the children who took part were really good and certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves learning about food. I realise about the importance of learning about food for our children and am pleased that the School Food Plan made cooking lessons and food education a compulsory part of the curriculum.”
