South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to attend the first ever day of the Green Man festival at Mount Edgcumbe Park on Saturday. Sheryll, who is a member of the Friends of Mount Edgcumbe Park group, met with Park manager Ian Berry, at the Green Man statue.
Sheryll described the event saying, “I was delighted to see the success of the festival to celebrate the rebirth of the year. There were falconry displays, archery, willow weaving, wood turning and fun around the village stocks. I was also pleased to visit stall holders from South East Cornwall and across the Tamar in Plymouth at the open air craft fair and food market. This was all woven around the huge central figure of a Green Man on the lawn in front of the fantastic Mount Edgcumbe House.
“As the former Joint Chairman of the Mount Edgcumbe Joint Committee who was responsible for introducing independent income generation through Wedding Licenses, I am so pleased that new initiatives are being introduced which will not only relieve the burden on the Council Taxes but also encourage people to share this wonderful facility. I pay tribute to Ian Berry and all the staff who work so hard to maintain this fantastic establishment which we can all enjoy. With the Cremyll Ferry operating from Stonehouse, you really can have a car free day out in wonderful surroundings.”
