Local MP Sheryll Murray, who is currently visiting some of our hard working Royal Mail staff in the run up to Christmas, has welcomed the news that our Post Offices have won the DVLA contract to provide services for them for the next seven years.
DVLA services, such as road tax payments, will be offered at over 4,700 outlets. DVLA-related services at the Post Office will expand to include services currently only offered through DVLA local offices. There is also scope for the provision of other Government services through the post office network.
Sheryll said, "I am also really pleased that the Post Office has won this important contract from the DVLA after a rigorous and competitive bidding process. So many of us rely on the services our local post offices provide, especially in the smaller villages. I received many representations about this important matter and made sure the Government was very aware of this strong lobby."
However our hard working posties raised concerns about having to do more in less hours and that Royal Mail do not take account of private mail like TNT which still has to be delivered but is not counted in the volume of post that delivery staff have to sort and put through doors.
Sheryll said, "I would like to recognise the hard work our postal delivery team undertake at this time of year, often in poor weather, to bring Christmas cheer to so many people. It really is appreciated."
