Local MP Sheryll Murray MP was in for ‘a big surprise’ when she took Lord Bearsby, the House of Lords Teddy Bear, and Portcullis Bear, the House of Commons Teddy Bear, to the popular Bear fair in Lostwithiel on Sunday. There was no ‘disguise’ that could hide the amount of work and diversity of bears that were on display.
Each year there is a Christmas Teddy Bear Fair at Lostwithiel Community Centre, with over 45 stands of hundreds of teddies: old and antique, new, artist and designer (many from Devon and Cornwall), plus well known trademark bears and friends, free valuations and restoration advice, teddy bear hospital, bear making demonstrations, kits, patterns, materials and accessories, charity stands - and many more!
Lord Bearsby joined the Cornwall Hospice Care stand to help raise money to provide specialist care and support to adults in Cornwall with life-limiting illnesses, along with their families, friends & carers.
Portcullis Bear joined Animals Asia's campaign which is devoted to ending the barbaric practice of bear bile farming and improving the welfare of animals in China and Vietnam. One bear to help another.
Following the event Sheryl said, “The event was a great success and it was fascinating seeing the range of bears, both new and well loved ones, some of which were around when I was young. I was particularly impressed by the amount of work and detail that had gone into many of the displays. I hope that many of the bears, the two I took with me included, found good new homes where they can be cared for.”
