Last week, in Parliament, Sheryll Murray MP paid to have a flu jab and encouraged others, especially those who qualify to have a free immunisation, to do so now.
Advice is that symptoms of Flu can include a sudden high temperature, headache and general aches and pains, tiredness and sore throat, coughing, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhoea, exhaustion and feeling unwell. Flu is particularly common in Winter and unfortunately a significant number of deaths occur each year as a result of complications caused by flu in elderly and at risk groups. A flu vaccine, which protects you against this, is available free on the NHS if you are in an ‘at risk’ group. So people who are pregnant, aged 65 or older, have a long-term medical condition such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, kidney or neurological disease, have a weakened immune system, are a healthcare worker or carer live in a residential or nursing home you will be eligible.
Following her jab Sheryll said, “It is often all too easy when we lead busy lives to forget to get a flu jab but just think of the time you can save by getting one if it helps stop you from falling ill. I met many a regretful person when I worked at the local doctor’s surgery wishing they had remembered. Please remember this year.”
