South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to see the children dancing round the maypole in her home village of Millbrook dancing the same dances she did when a child some 50 years ago. Sheryll said, “Seeing the children dance really did take me back to when I was a child. I always really enjoyed these festivities and I could see from the children’s faces they were still enjoying them today. I also remember my daughter dancing these same dances when she was young. I hope that many generations of Millbrook youngsters continue to enjoy this event well into the future.”
Sheryll then went on to judge the decorated houses in Cawsand and Kingsand awarding the best business award to the Devonport Inn and the residential award to the Old School House. She also gave honourable mentions to the Westcroft Gallery, Haven and The Boathouse. Following the judging Sheryll said, “Judging was difficult and I would like to thank everyone who took part. It was fantastic that so many people took part making Kingsand and Cawsand look particularly beautiful.”
Following this Sheryll joined the procession, raising money for Rame & Torpoint Lions, through the villages before the Black Prince was launched into the channel. Sheryll said, “This event dates back for many years and I was very honoured to accompany the Black Prince past all the beautifully decorated buildings. I was also pleased to help the Lions collect for their charities and would like to thank them for all the work they did organising this event.”
