Sheryll Murray MP has raised a concern that all the testing sights for electric blankets are in mid-cornwall and none in the East or the West of the County.
A Cornwall Council poster alarming states, “Are you Sleeping with a killer? Be Safe and Prepared for Winter.” It goes on to explain that, “Each year there are about 1000 fires caused by faulty electric blankets. Around 20 people are killed and 250 injured in these fires. Elderly people are particularly vulnerable. Recent checks have found that 40% of blankets being used by the public are unsafe.”
Liberal Democrat Councillor Geoff Brown, the council’s cabinet member for communities who represents a mid-Cornwall seat, has encouraged as many people as possible to get the checks.
However, following an enquiry, Sheryll Murray MP has had it confirmed that all four testing sites will be in the mid-Cornwall area and none will be in the West or the East.
In a statement Sheryll said, “I find it very disappointing that this Council is doing all its testing in the mid-Cornwall area and none in my constituency of South East Cornwall or indeed the East or the West of the County. Surely it would be more sensible for the Council to undertake a better geographic spread than just test in mid-Cornwall.”
