MP welcomes clean water for East Looe after tests

Following a meeting arranged between the Environment Agency, local Councillors and other community representatives, Sheryll Murray has welcomed the news that the statutory water quality results put East Looe beach amongst the best in the region for the majority of the time.

Further consultation over Coastguard stations welcomed as long as it’s not about a ‘massive cull in stations’

Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall has today welcomed news that a further consultation on coastguards will take place over the Summer. Sheryll has welcomed the announcement that a further consultation will take place on the future of the coastguards once the Minister's proposals have been announced.

Transport Minister, Mike Penning confirmed during an adjournment debate yesterday, that proposals would be announced by the end of July when Parliament breaks up for the summer and that this would be followed by a further consultation.

New production facilities as Cornish business expands and creates new jobs

Local MP Sheryll Murray MP recently toured local firm Cornish Orchards with owner Andy Atkinson who moved to the 110 acre farm owned by the Duchy in 1992.  The traditional business is a great success story which already employs 22 local people. Andy described the business as “entering an exciting period of growth”. He attributed some of the success to developing strong relationships with customers and focusing on the level of service provided.

MP raises urgent concerns with Environment Agency over East Looe beach

Following a report by the Marine Conservation Society which failed the water at Looe East beach, local MP Sheryll Murray got in touch with the Environment Agency on Tuesday as soon as it was brought to her attention and asked for an urgent meeting to address the concerns of local people and to get the problem sorted out.

MP congratulates award winning teachers

At a recent visit to Saltash.net to see the head teacher Local MP Sheryll Murray met and congratulated three teachers from the school that were successful in the National Teaching Awards. Paul Horrell along with Teaching Assistant Eileen Sloggett received South West Regional Commendations and Nicki Bovey was the Regional winner of the Science teacher of the year.

MP repeats her call to dump “ill-thought out” Coastguard plans

Sheryll Murray MP repeats her call for all Members of Parliament with coastal Constituencies to join together to persuade the Government to scrap the present coastguard consultation and start again with a blank sheet of paper after the Minister gave evidence to the Transport Select Committee Enquiry on Tuesday.

MP calls on government to act on 0844 numbers at doctors surgeries

South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray has written to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley MP calling on him to act over surgeries with non-geographic 0844 numbers.  Sheryll began her campaign against the use of these numbers over three years ago when she presented a paper to the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Primary Care Trust in a bid to resolve the issue. Sheryll, who then worked for a local doctors surgery, heard the concerns of many patients first hand and was determined to act.
