On Wednesday Sheryll Murray MP made a visit to the brain injury support charity Headway based in Lostwithiel to learn about the hard work the volunteers and staff put in. Around 250 people suffer from traumatic brain injuries in each of Cornwall’s constituencies each year with around 40 being classed as moderate to severe. Headway’s mission is, “To work to improve the quality of Life of those with a traumatic brain injury, their relatives and carers”.
After her visit Sheryll said, “I would like to thank all those who work for such a worthwhile cause and for the warm welcome I received. The wide range of activities are designed to help the healing process and to give carers much need respite.”
The two centres in Cornwall offer physical and mental therapy as well as skills and vocation training.
Sheryll continued, “It takes a lot to build up confidence and the skill set necessary after a traumatic head injury which, lets face it, could happen to any of us at any time. This charity does a fantastic job in allowing patients to make progress and I would encourage those that can to help out.”
