Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall, joined Minister Rt Hon Mike Penning MP to thank Western Power Distribution workers for going out in all weathers to try to restore power to homes when it was lost during the Winter storms.
The certificate, presented today in the Churchill Room in the Palace of Westminster, reads, “Acknowledging their dedication, professionalism and safe working practices during the weather over winter 2013/14. Their efforts ensured electricity supplies were reconnected to customers and businesses in a timely fashion.”
In a statement Sheryll said, “All too often we hear the worst stories when power cuts hit. These are always the ones the media focuses on. I am pleased to be here today to personally thank the staff of Western Power Distribution for the effort they put in often out of normal working hours.”
The storms experienced in the UK last winter presented the biggest challenge to our energy infrastructure in over a decade. During the severe weather electricity network engineers worked incredibly hard in hazardous conditions to ensure that 95% of those who lost power had it restored within 24 hours.
